Almost exactly a year after our New York + Extras trip, here is the last post!

Don’t ask 🙂 Instead be distracted by this photo… mmm, creamy goodness!

Snacks in New York

Mmmm, snacks. The food you eat when you don’t need food. Most definitely beyond sustenance and into pleasure, enjoyment and greed.

I try not to snack too much on a regular basis, but this is less due to willpower than to deliberately not having them around.

Of course all bets are off on holiday. Especially in a city with eateries of all kinds on every avenue.

Petee’s Pie Company

American-style pies are something I am drawn to. British sweet pies are pretty tame – generally fruit of some sort between two layers of pastry. In America, pies can have chocolate, cream, custard or nuts, and are served in decadent slices. I base this on the charming and unique TV series Pushing Daisies and the movie Waitress.

La Petite Patisserie, Ayr

I love returning back to Ayrshire and finding out what new places have opened up. Before every visit I always do a little research – checking out popular places on TripAdvisor, reading up on new openings and so on.

I learned of La Petite Patisserie this way. It’s a recently opened cake shop tucked down Cow Wynd off Alloway Street in Ayr (look out for a board on the pavement guiding you into a courtyard).

Doing a little background reading I found out about the help they had received from Reddit users to enhance the business. I’m hugely fond of independent “dream-realising” outlets, plus the photos on their site looked delicious so I felt obliged to drag H and T down there for some mid-morning cake.

Daisy Cupcakes, Ayr

Way back when I did a few posts on The Daisy Cupcake Cafe in Ayr. Lovely cakes and a really friendly place.

I was very sad to hear that it had closed earlier this year. However all is not over, as the owner is still making cupcakes and delivering them locally. Visit the website to find out how to get your order in.

I also learned that The Basement Coffee House (13 Old Bridge Street) in Ayr stocks Daisy cupcakes too, and on my recent Scottish travels I picked a few up. I can also recommend a white hot chocolate with rose I had in the cafe while I was there – smooth and sweet.
