Gardens take up your time. Don’t get me wrong, I really love gardening, but it leaves less time for rambling about food on the internet.
This post is going to be quite shambolic I am afraid. No pics, just a list of some places I managed to eat out while on a recent work trip to LA. Although working took up much of the time, any moment I could, I would take the opportunity to go somewhere interesting.
The trip was quite last minute, so I didn’t have too much time to do research, but I still had some great food.
Highlights are listed below (in no particular order).
Huckleberry Bakery and Café, 1014 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 9040. I don’t like tea, but a milky sweet chai coupled with a maple bacon biscuit (scone) is another matter. Add on a sneaky donut hole and what more could you want?
Zengo, 395 Santa Monica Pl, Santa Monica, CA 90401. Latin-Asian small plates of unusual and exquisite construction. Also a wonderful bar space. XO Style Edamame were delicious!
Sushi Roku, 1401 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA 9040. Sushi by the sea. The Popcorn Shrimp Tempura with a spicy creamy sauce were moreish and a must-have.
Blue Plate Tacos, 1515 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90401. The pork belly taco special was a revelation.
Jinky’s Café, 1447 2nd St, Santa Monica, CA 90401. Traditional American breakfasts. I drowned pancakes and bacon in syrup.
Hide Sushi, 2040 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025. Fresh, varied and reasonably priced.
Sweet Rose Creamery, 826 Pico Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90405. Tiny outlet with great sorbets and ice-creams.
DK’s Donuts,1614 Santa Monica Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90404. Wow-Nuts, O-Nuts, and regular donuts. Why don’t we have one of these here?!
Demitasse, 1149 Third Street, Santa Monica, CA 90403. Reportedly great coffee. Good cake.
Rockenwagner Bakery Café, 311 Arizona Avenue Santa Monica, CA 90401. I can vouch for the raspberry cro-dough.
You certainly did well within the limits of your trip, sounds worth a return visit.x
