Mango (mamuang) and sticky rice (khao neow) is one of the famous dishes of Thailand.
It isn’t hard to see why it’s so popular.
Succulent ripe mango rests atop sweet sticky rice soaked in coconut milk. Lusciously calorific (yes, that might be fresh fruit sitting on top, but it doesn’t compensate for the fattening coconut milk, whatever you might tell yourself!), each sinful spoonful slips down with the greatest of ease, until you suddenly find yourself scraping an empty bowl and wondering where your pudding went.
I’ve never eaten a well-travelled UK-bought mango that tasted half as good as the cheap-as-chips mangoes in Thailand. Seasonal and local applies wherever you are in the world, so while I probably will give in to temptation and make this at home some time, I know it won’t taste as delectable as it did back in Thailand.
