This post was written over a year ago and then forgotten – but here it finally is.
Dessert is a course I rarely reach.
I find it very hard to ignore starters, and this inevitably means that by the time the dessert menu comes, I am full. Sometimes I have two starters and no main, or if it is a small plates place I rein it in, but I often get to the end of the meal and know that I just can’t fit anything else in.

I’ve never been a fan of pink. As kids, girls are powerless to resist the pink onslaught that starts from birth. Even as an adult, pastels follow you around, meaning I end up buying men’s socks, dressing gowns and the like to get the dull dark colours I prefer.

About six months ago, a friend of H’s returned from a visit to Japan, and one of the things he brought back was a very unusual selection of KitKats. Now, finally, I have got around to finishing the write-up!
I’m a regular old-fashioned KitKat fan. 4 slim sticks welded together, or sometimes a 2-finger version for a snack. Dark chocolate, chocolate orange, KitKat Chunky – neither these nor their brethren appeal.
However we have nothing like the flavours you can get in Japan. The ones I was lucky enough to try are just the tip of an exotic iceberg.
