Almost exactly a year after our New York + Extras trip, here is the last post!

Don’t ask 🙂 Instead be distracted by this photo… mmm, creamy goodness!

Snacks in New York

Mmmm, snacks. The food you eat when you don’t need food. Most definitely beyond sustenance and into pleasure, enjoyment and greed.

I try not to snack too much on a regular basis, but this is less due to willpower than to deliberately not having them around.

Of course all bets are off on holiday. Especially in a city with eateries of all kinds on every avenue.

Petee’s Pie Company

American-style pies are something I am drawn to. British sweet pies are pretty tame – generally fruit of some sort between two layers of pastry. In America, pies can have chocolate, cream, custard or nuts, and are served in decadent slices. I base this on the charming and unique TV series Pushing Daisies and the movie Waitress.

Santa Monica Eats

Gardens take up your time. Don’t get me wrong, I really love gardening, but it leaves less time for rambling about food on the internet.

This post is going to be quite shambolic I am afraid. No pics, just a list of some places I managed to eat out while on a recent work trip to LA. Although working took up much of the time, any moment I could, I would take the opportunity to go somewhere interesting.

Croissant meets Doughnut

The cronut frenzy has reached the shores of the UK in full force recently. If you haven’t heard of cronuts, please google them and then return (stares into the middle distance for a minute).

Ever since reading about them in various gushing articles, I have been pensively wishing to try them. Pensively because I don’t live in New York, and even going to nearby London just to ferret one out is a pricey trip.

In preparation for my birthday I carefully hoarded a collection of links to pass on to H as cheeky suggestions for my birthday cake. Of course I didn’t just limit my request to cronuts/doissants, but luckily for me, that was what he made.

Dutch Food Analysis: Oliebollen

Before you get envious/astounded that I have been on holiday so soon after being abroad for months, don’t worry. The oliebol may be Dutch, but I bought it in Kilmarnock at the Global/Continental Market mentioned in my post on macaroons.

Given that this occurred a few weeks ago, there is really no excuse for my taking so long to write about it. All I can say is that my mind has recently been focused on job-seeking, which hasn’t left much room for anything else.
